New York City Plans Support Network for Defendants Freed Under New Bail Laws

With sweeping court reforms set to go into effect January 1, 2020 in New York State, New York City officials will spend millions to ensure that the thousands of defendants no longer eligible for money bail will successfully return for their hearings. In the Wall Street Journal’s coverage of these reforms, they reference DCJ’s finding that over 20,000 additional cases in NYC would have been eligible for pretrial release had these reforms gone into effect in 2018.
