NYPD Criminal Summons Issuance by Zip Code

Neighborhood Disparities in NYPD Criminal Summons Issuance (2022)

In March 2024, DCJ published a report examining racial and neighborhood disparities in criminal summons practices by the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Accompanying this report is a set of maps (available below) offering visual illustrations of disparities in criminal summons issuance across all NYC zip codes in 2022. The six maps respectively present the racial/ethnic composition of each zip code’s general population; the number of people issued a summons in 2022 (and the summons rate per 100,000 in the general population); and the extent to which (shown across four maps) Black, Hispanic, white, and Asian people are overrepresented or underrepresented among people issued summonses in each zip code. For each map, please hover over a zip code of interest to see additional information.
