Trends in Arrests for Misdemeanor Charges in New York City, 1993-2016

This report examines trends in misdemeanor arrests in New York City between 1993 and 2016 by charge categories. The report groups charges that are more likely to be complaint-driven (e.g., “person-related” charges, like assault and property crimes) compared to arrest charges that are less likely to be complaint-driven (e.g., drug charges and theft of services charges, commonly called “turnstile jumping”). This report also presents trends by individual charge categories.
