Racial Disparities in NYC Jail Admissions by Zipcode

In February 2023, DCJ published a report delving into racial disparities in NYC jail admissions: Racial Disparities in the Use of Jail Across New York City, 2016-2021. Accompanying this report is a set of maps (available below) offering visual illustrations of racial and neighborhood disparities in NYC jail admissions. The maps respectively present the racial/ethnic composition of each zip code’s general population, the number of people admitted to NYC jails in 2021 from each zip code, and the extent to which (shown across four maps) Black, Hispanic, white, and Asian people are overrepresented or underrepresented in each zip code’s 2021 jail admissions.
